BENGAL GRAM - A GENERAL TONIC

Bengal gram- it is the most important among pulses available in the world. Botanically it is known as cicer arietinum L belongs the family leguminosae. Sanskrit it is known as canaka, hindi - chana
It is originated in Asia, it is spread in India and Europe in ancient times. Now it is cultivated in India, Pakistan, Egypt and other countries. It contains protein, fat, minerals, fibre, carbohydrates, calcium., phosphorus, iron, Vit C, Vit bcomplex
MEDICINAL USES
1. General tonic-- Soaked in water every night and chewed in the morning with honey act as a general tonic
2. Diabetes- It is a boon for diabetics. Regular intake of gram in any form improves the fasting sugar levels and reduces insulin requirement by 2 percent
3. Anemia-- Leaves of the plant provides enough iron . A tablespoon of fresh juice mixed with honey should be taken in anemic conditions
4. Antacid-- Roasted gram clears the excess oil from the intestine and act as an antacid
5. Aphrodisiac-- It is an aphrodisiac and effective remedy in impotency and ejaculation. It is a general tonic
6.Burning sensation- In case of excessive burning in fever soup of gram should be given
7.Purgative-- Gram soaked in euphorbia nerifolia latex and slightly heated on fire act as a drastic purgative
8. Vomiting- In vomiting soup of gram mixed with vetiveria zizanoides and coriander satvum should be given
