HERBALS FOR COMMON COLD


The common cold is an extremely common viral infection. It is an inflammation of the linnning of the respiratory tract, in particular the nasal passages. Recovery occurs after  a few  days
Symptoms are – are blocked nose, frequent sneezing , nasal discharge initially running and clear and then thick and greenish yellow
HERBAL TREATMENT
Bishop’s weed- A tablespoon of bishop’s weed seeds crushed and tied up in a cloth bundle can be used for inhalation to open up clogged and congested nasal passages . A teaspoon of bishop’s weed seeds can be put in boiling water and vapors inhaled
Tulasi-Make a paste of tulasi leaves and mix it with honey . This preparation should be taken in the morning. It will remove cold and cough
Lime- Drink  plenty of lime juice every day as ascorbic acid content of lime protects against catching cold
Cassia- The root of the cassia tree is useful in common cold. The smoke from its burning root can be inhaled in the condition of running nose
Cinnamon- Coarsely powdered and boiled cinnamon leaves in a glass of water with a pinch of pepper powder and honey can be used effectively in common cold
Common thyme- Infuse one sachet of dried leaves in a cup of boiling water for 5 mts. Drink 3 cups a day
Cumin- Dilute cumin seeds in an antiseptic beverage . This is very useful in common cold. A teaspoon of cumin is added to boiling water , which is allowed to simmer for  a few seconds and set aside to cool

Echinacea- 1-3 capsules a day with a glass of water before meals
Eucalyptus- Add 3 drops of essential oil to a bowel of boiling water that has been allowed to cool a little, cover head with a towel and place over the bowel  . Inhale deeply for 10 mts
Ginger- For coughs and cold extracted juice of ginger with honey is taken 3-4 times a day. Ginger tea prepared by adding a few piece of ginder in to boiled water before adding tea leaves is another effective remedy for frequent colds and associated fever
Nut meg- A paste made with cow’s milk and 70 mg of opium should be applied to forehead and nose. It will provide quick relief in common cold


Onion- 3-4 teaspoon of onion juice and honey , mixed in equal proportion can be taken daily. It is one of the safest preventive medicine against common cold during winter
Pepper- Six pepper seeds finely ground and mixed in a glass of warm water along with sugar candy, can be taken a few nights with good results. In case of cold in the head , 25 gms of pepper powder boiled in milk with a pinch of turmeric powder can be used once daily for three days
Rosemary- Infuse 2-4 gm of the dried plant in a cup of boiling water for 10 mts. Strain. Drink 3 cups a day after meals
Vasaka- Juice of vasaka leaves mixed with honey and sugar alleviates common cold
White deadnettle- Tincture 1:4 in 25 percent alcohol. Take 20 drops in water 3 times a day
Other measure- Increase your fluid intake. Increase your vit. C intake
