BOTANICAL NAME:  Piscidia erythrina Linn.

FAMILY:  Leguminosae

COMMON NAMES: English: Jamaica dog wood.

DECRIPTION:  An evergreen tree up to 7 m in height with spreading branches. Leaves pinnate, leaflets 3-4 pairs, opposite, oblong or elliptical. Flower purplish white, in axillary compound racemes on triangular downy stalks. Fruit a pod.

DISTRIBUTION: Tropical America and West indies.

PART USED:  Root-bark.

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

INSOMNIA: A nerve sedative . Insomnia due to worry or nervous excitement. Dysmenorrhea. Spasmodic cough and pain.

POTENCY: Mother tincture.
