HOLARRHENA ANTIDYSENTERICA

BOTANICAL NAME:  Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall.

FAMILY:  Apocynaceae

COMMON NAMES:  English:  Kurchi, Conessi tree, Conessi bark; Hindi: Kuda, Kudaiya;  Malayalam: Kodagappala; Tamil: Veppalai; Telegu: Kodisepal.

DESCRIPTION:  A small tree with brown bark exfoliating in irregular flakes. Leaves sessile or nearly so, rather than glabrous or more or less lomentose, especially beneath, broadly ovate or elliptic, rounded or tapering at base. Flowers white, arranged in terminal cymes.

DISTRIBUTION:  Common throughout India.

PART USED:  Bark.

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

DYSENTERY:  Both acute and chronic dysentery. Dysentery associated with weakness, emaciation and loss of appetite. Colicky pain around the navel. Stool contains more mucous but blood is less.

POTENCY: Mother tincture, 3x, 6x.
