BOTANICAL NAME:  Gymnema sylvestre R. Br.

FAMILY: Asclepiadaceae

COMMON NAMES: English:Cowplant, Small Indain Ipecacuanha, Gurmar ; Hindi: Gurmar; Malayalam: Chakkarakolli; Tamil: Cirukurinca.

DESCRIPTION:  A large, more or less pubescent climbing shrub; young stems and branches  terete, pubescent. Leaves sub-coriaceous, 2.5 -6 cm long, elliptical or ovate, acute or shortly acuminate, cuneate rounded or cordate at the base. Flowers yellow, in umbellate cymes.

DISTRIBUTION:  Found in deciduous forest of sub-Himalayan regions, central and southern India.

PART USED:  Leaves

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

DIABETES:  Profuse urination loaded with sugar. After passage of urine patient exclaims, ‘ this passage of urine in large quantities has made me very weak’. Urine white, specific gravity high, and copious.  Great thirst.  Great weakness. Burning all over the body. Diabetic carbuncle. Weakness of sexual power and erectile dysfunction.
