ANDROGRAPHIS PANICULATA

BOTANICAL NAME:  Andrographis paniculata Nees.

FAMILY:  Acanthaceae

COMMON NAMES:  English: The Creat, King of bitters; Hindi: Kalmegh;  Malayalam :  Kiriyatthe, Nilavaepu; Tamil: Nilavembu.

DESCRIPTION:  An erect annual, upto 30-90 cm high, branches sharply 4-angled or almost winged. Leaves 6 cm long, lanceolate, acute, tapering at the base, pale beneath, main towards lateral nerves 4 -6 pairs, sessile , upto 0.6 mm long. Flowers small, solitary, arranged in lax spreading axillary and terminal racemes or panicles.

DISTRIBUTION:  In the plains throughout India.

PART USED:  Whole plant.

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

JAUNDICE:  Jaundice of infants with yellow urine. Infantile liver, enlargement of liver and spleen with pain. White coated tongue. Constipation. Stools scanty. Burning in palms and soles.

FEVER: Fever with chill or without chill from 4.30 pm and abates from 7. 30 pm. Intense headache with thirst. Giddiness, especially at 10 am., worse when rising from sitting posture. Throbbing pain in  occiput, especially right side. Burning pain all over the body, better from cold application. Profuse sweat, especially on forehead, neck, upper part of the body. No sweat in the lower parts of the body. Redness of the eye. Rhinorrhea and dryness of tongue. Tongue white coated. Bitter taste in mouth.

POTENCY:  Mother tincture, 3x, 6x, 30
