BOTANICAL NAME:  Ricinus communis Linn.

FAMILY:  Euphorbiaceae

COMMON NAMES: English: Castor oil plant

DESCRIPTION:  A tall glabrous and glaucous annual, sometimes shrubby or tree-like. Leaves alternate, broad, palmately lobed, lobes 7 or more, serrate. Flowers unisexual, rather large, in terminal sub-paniculate racemes, perianth simple and without any disc, the male flowers crowded in the upper portion of the inflorescence, the females below. Fruit a prickly capsule of 2-valved cocci.

DISTRIBUTION:  Cultivated throughout India

PART USED:  Ripe seeds

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

BREAST MILK:  Ricinus communis  is a great galactogogue.  Ricinus communis increases the quality of milk in nursing women.

GASTRO-ENTERITIS: Nausea and profuse vomiting. Colic, incessant diarrhea with purging. Rice water stools with cramps and chilliness. Violent purging with the diarrhea. Bloody diarrhea.

POTENCY:  3rd potency.
