BOTANICAL NAME: Lathyrus sativus Linn.
FAMILY: Leguminaceae
COMMON NAMES: English: Chick pea.
DESCRIPTION: Stems winged upto 1 m long, petioles narrowly
winged, leaflets linera or narrowly lanceolate. Flowers pink or blue to white.
Pods oblong, 2-4 seeded. Seeds faceted, heart shaped, grayish brown or
yellowish, usually spotted or mottled, with a distict coloured line running
from helium to the notch.
DISTRIBUTION: A native of southern Europe and western Asia,
but is common in India.

USES
MOTOR NEURON DISEASE: Tremulous , tottering gait. Excessive
rigidity of legs, spastic gait. Knees knock against each other when walking.
Cannot extend or cross legs when sitting. Gluteal muscles and lower limbs emaciated.
Stiffness and lameness of ankles and knees, toes do not leave the floor, heels
do not touch floor. Patients sits bent forward, straightens up with difficulty.
Reflexes always increased.
