BOTANICAL NAME: Saccharum officinarum.

COMMON NAMES: English: Sugar cane

DESCRIPTION: A perennial , tall grass.  The plants are c2-6 metres tall with stout , jointed, fibrous stalks that are rich in sucrose, which accumulates in the stalk internodes. Inflorescens terminal , plumose, spikelets binate with long silky hairs.

DISTRIBUTION: Warm temperate to tropical regions of Southeast Asia.

PART USED: Sugar from sugar cane.
