ZOOLOGICAL NAME: Murex brandaris
FAMILY: Muricidae
COMMON NAMES: English-Sea snail, Purple fish.
DESCRIPTION: Unsymmetrical mollusk having shell with long spout-like spines. The body is divisible into three regions, viz, anterior head, ventral region or foot and dorsal region or mantle covered by protective shell. There isa peculiar adrenal gland situated at the side of rectum which secretes a fluid that is colorless and turns purple on exposure to air.
DISTRIBUTION: Found abundantly on the shores of Mediterranean and Adriatic seas.
PART USED: The dessicated juice. Drug consists of the juice which is found in a membranous sac situated between the heart and liver. The fresh juice appears as a viscid, colorless or greenish liquid which assumes red color on exposure to air.
HOMOEOPATHIC USES
UTERUS PROLAPSE: A feeling of protrusion. Must keep legs tightly crossed. Conscious of womb. Prolapsed with pelvic tenesmus and sharp pains.
BREAST TUMOR; Benign tumors in breast. Pain in breast during menstrual period. Pain from right side of uterus to right or left breast
NUMPHOMANIA: Least contact of genitals causes violent excitement. Desire easily excited.
POTENCY: 3rd to 30 potency.
