CROCUS SATIVUS
BOTANICAL NAME: Crocus sativus Linn.
FAMILY: Iridaceae
COMMON NAMES: English: Saffron; Hindi: Kesar, Zafran;
Malayalam: Kunkumappu; Tamil: Kunkumappu; Telegu: Kunkuma-puvva.
DESCRIPTION: A perennial, low growing, bulbous plant. Corm
globular producing 6-9 sessile leaves surrounded in lower part by 4-5 broad membranous
scales. Flowers terminal on scape.
Perianth pale reddish- purple forming cylindrical tube about 10 cm long
terminating in 6 oblong oval segments.
DISTRIBUTION: India in Kashmir, southern Europe and Asia.
PART USED: Dried stigma of the flower.
HOMOEOPATHIC
USES
CHOREA AND HYSTERIA: Hysteria with laughing mania. Rapidly or alternating
mental disposition, opposite to each other .Anger with violence rapidly,
followed by abject repentance, laughter quickly followed by tears. Changeable
disposition. Vacillating moods. Happy and affectionate, then angry. Sings on hearing
a single note sung. Jumping , dancing, laughing , whistling, wants to kiss everybody.
Sensation as if something alive was moving about the abdomen or chest with
nausea and faintness. Sensation in the eyes as if the room was filled with
smoke, as if had been weeping, as of old wind blowing across the eyes. Better
from eyelids are tightly closed.
NOSEBLEED: Bleeding from nose, strings of dark blood
hanging down the nose with faintness and cold sweat on forehead. Nosebleed at
puberty of young girls.
ABORTION, THREATENED: Threatened abortion , especially when is dark
and stringy. Movement of fetus are violent and painful.
MENORRHAGE: Menses heavy.
Blood clotted with long strings, worse from least movement. Hemorrhage is aggravated
during 2-3 days of accustomed menstrual flow.
MENOPAUSE: Throbbing and pulsating headache during climacteric.
CONSTIPATION: Obstinate constipation due to portal
stagnation.
CANCER: Cancer of large intestine. Crawling and
stitches in anus with bleeding of dark black blood.
