BOTANICAL NAME: Convallaria majalis Linn
FAMILY: Liliaceae
COMMON NAMES: English-Lily of the Valley.
DESCRIPTION: A low, acaulescent perennial herb, its
subterranean portion consists of branched, creeping horizontal rhizome bearing
3-9 rootless from its nodes. Aerial portion consists of 2-3 oblong, parallel
veined leaves with long sheathing petioles. Flowers fragrant, white, bell-shaped
with six curved lobes, nodding on an angled scape 15 cm high, bearing one sided
raceme. Fruits red ferries.
DISTRIBUTION: Europe, Asia and south eastern United States.

USES
HEART: A heart remedy. Increases energy of heart’s
action, renders it more regular. Tobacco heart due to excessive cigarette
smoking. Angina pectoris. Sensation as if heart ceased beating, then starting
very suddenly. Palpitation on least exertion. Endocarditis with extreme
orthopnoea. Extremely rapid and irregular pulse. Hypertrophy of heart.
UTERUS: Great soreness in uterine region with
sympathetic palpitation of heart.
DROPSY: Dropsy caused by
sluggish action of heart. Scanty urine.
