HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES FOR MUMPS

Mumps is a viral infection that primarily affects the parotid glands — one of three pairs of saliva-producing (salivary) glands, situated below and in front of your ears. If you or your child contracts mumps, it can cause swelling in one or both parotid glands.

Mumps was common in the United States until mumps vaccination became routine. Since then, the number of cases has dropped dramatically, so your odds of getting mumps are low. Complications of mumps, such as hearing loss, are potentially serious, but rare.

Cause-The cause of mumps is the mumps virus, which spreads easily from person to person through infected saliva. If you're not immune, you can contract mumps by breathing in saliva droplets of an infected person who has just sneezed or coughed. You can also contract mumps from sharing utensils or cups with someone who has mumps.

Symptoms-Some people infected with the mumps virus have either no signs or symptoms or very mild ones. When signs and symptoms do develop, they usually appear about two to three weeks after exposure to the virus and may include:-Swollen, painful salivary glands on one or both sides of your face (parotitis), Fever, Headache, Muscle aches, Weakness and fatigue, Loss of appetite, Pain while chewing or swallowing

The primary — and best known — sign of mumps is swollen salivary glands that cause the cheeks to puff out. In fact, the term "mumps" is an old expression for lumps or bumps within the cheeks

HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES

BELLADONNA 3X- It is an excellent remedy for mumps. It may be alternated with Merc iodide . The two remedies should be alternated every half an hour

PHYTOLACCA DEC 30- It shoul be tried if the above remedies fail, and when the tumor is harder and skin paler. Shooting pain radiating to the ears on swallowing

PULSATILLA 30- When the era is involved and pain is severe. It is better by heat. When the mumps affect testes or mammae ,  by they are inflamed

ABROTANUM  30- When the mumps affect testes or mammae , and when Pulsatilla fails

PAROTIDINUM 30- It is a nosode and it can be given as a preventive in 200 potency to people not affected by this disease. Usually one dose is sufficient. It may be given in 30 potency during the disease

 PILOCARPINUM 30- A valuable remedy in limiting the induration of mumps. Saliva pours out in an almost continuous stream frm the mouth. May be given in alteration with Belladonna or Merc-i-r 3x

MERCURIUS SOL 30- Sore pain on touching and from chewing. Whole mouth swollen. Profuse salivation

MERCURIUS IOD. 30- Glands greatly swollen. Swallowing painful. Severe shooting pain in ears

PREVENTIVE

- PILOCARPINUM 200- Two times daily for one week

PULSATILLA 1M- One dose
