BOTANICAL NAME:  Bixa orellana Linn

FAMILY:  Bixaceae

COMMON NAMES:  English:  Annalto, Lipstick tree.

DESCRIPTION:  A shrub or small tree. Leaves alternate, simple , entire, palmately veined, ovate, cordate or truncate at the base, stipulate. Inflorescence terminal panicle. Flowers white or pink. Fruit a capsule, each capsule contain about 50 seeds.

DISTRIBUTION:  Native of Central America and cultivated throughout India.

Leprosy. Elephantiasis. Eczema.
