AMPELOPSIS  QUINQUEFOLIA

BOTANICAL NAME:  Parthenocissus quinquefolia Planch

FAMILY: Vitaceae

COMMON NAMES:  English: American Ivy

DESCRIPTION: A large climber, tendrils with 5-8 branches ending in adhesive tips. Young shoots purplish; leaflets elliptical to obovate-oblong, acuminate; usually cuneate at the base, coarsely . Cymes crowded into terminal panicles. Fruit bluish- black, with usually 2-3 seeds.

PART USED: Stem bark and young twigs.

HOMOEOPATHIC USES

Kidney dropsies, hydrocele and chronic hoarseness in scrofulous patients. Choleric symptoms. Generally worse from 6 pm. Dilated pupils. Left costal region sore and sensitive. Elbow joint pains, back sore. Soreness of all limbs. Vomiting, purging with tenesmus. Rumbling in abdomen.

POTENCY:  Second to third potency.
