HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES FOR URTICARIA

Urticaria or hives  is a skin reaction that causes itchy welts, which can range in size from small spots to large blotches several inches in diameter. Hives can be triggered by exposure to certain foods, medications or other substances.

Causes

·         Foods. Many foods can trigger reactions in people with sensitivities. Shellfish, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs and milk are frequent offenders.

·         Medications. Almost any medication may cause hives or angioedema. Common culprits include penicillin, aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others), naproxen (Aleve) and blood pressure medications.

·         Common allergens. Other substances that can cause hives and angioedema include pollen, animal dander, latex and insect stings.

·         Environmental factors. Examples include heat, cold, sunlight, water, pressure on the skin, emotional stress and exercise.

·         Underlying medical conditions. Hives and angioedema also occasionally occur in response to blood transfusions, immune system disorders such as lupus, some types of cancer such as lymphoma, certain thyroid conditions, and infections with bacteria or viruses such as hepatitis, HIV, cytomegalovirus, and Epstein-Barr virus.

·         Genetics. Hereditary angioedema is a rare inherited (genetic) form of the condition. It's related to low levels or abnormal functioning of certain blood proteins that play a role in regulating how your immune system functions.

Symptoms-

The welts associated with hives can be:

·         Red or flesh-colored

·         Intensely itchy

·         Roughly oval or shaped like a worm

·         Less than one inch to several inches across

Most hives go away within 24 hours. Chronic hives can last for months or years.

HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES

APIS MELIFICA 1x -Apis mel is the top remedy for Uricaria . Apis mel is prescribed when there is severe itching and burning, with stinging pain which is worse from warmth in bed. There is circumscribed swelling which may be red or pale with violent itching. In Apis mel the patient has no thirst.The slightest touch can cause itching  and burning.Heat is intolerable , the eruptions are caused or aggravated by exposure to heat in any form.Urticaria resulting from insect bite.

URTICA URENS 30-Urtica urens is another excellent remedy for Urticaria. This medicine should be tried when Apis mel. fails. In Urtica urens the symptoms are similar to that of Apis mel. except it has frequent urination. Urticaria that appears every year, in the same season, is best treated with  Urtica Urens.  Urticaria with intense burning and formication on the skin. Urtica Urens also  effective for  urticaria that alternates with rheumatism.  Urtica Urens is also the ideal  medicine for treating urticaria from eating shell fish.

ASTACUS FLUVIATILIS 30-Asctacus fl. Is an excellent remedy for both acute and chronic Urticaria. In Astacus Urticaria is associated with liver complaints .Astacus is prescribed when itching occurs over the entire body with marked stinging sensation on the skin.There is sensitiveness to air and are aggravated by uncovering.

RHUS TOXICODENDRON 30-Rhus tox is an effective remedy for Urticaria. Rhus tox is prescribed when red, swollen skin with itching , burning and smarting occurs which is better from warmth and heat. Throwing off of clothes aggravates burning and itching. It is also effective for urticarial resulting from getting wet.

DULCAMARA 30- Dulcamara is prescribed when Urticaria occurs the whole body  with intense itching and burning after scratching. It is worse from warmth and better from cold. Dulcamara is effective when Urticaria  arising from exposure to cold air or dampness or wet weather.In females the urticarial may be aggravated around menstrual period.Urticaraia can also be triggered by indiscretion in diet or taking sour foods.

NATRUM MURIATICUM 30- Natrum mur. is considered when urticaria triggered by exercise, and exposure to sun. The person who needs Natrum Mur will get large hives on the skin from exertion. This is attended with violent itching and burning The eruptions are red and oedematous .Urticaria with constipation and earthy complexion .The skin is usually oily or greasy.The eruptions are mostly at the bend of joints or at the margin of hair.

SEPIA 30- Sepia  is  effective for urticaria from going in cool open air. Being in a warm room brings relief. Urticarial eruptions with itching, which is not relieved by scratching, is another prescribing symptom of   Sepia .

BOVISTA 30 —Bovista  is  effective for urticaria which is resulting from coming in contact with water.  In  Bovista urticaria on waking in the morning time and attended with diarrhoea.

SULPHUR 200-Sulphur is effective when  urticaria that gets triggered by exposure to heat . There is intense  itching and burning. Scratching worsens the itching. In some cases, even washing may worsen the itching. Itching  worse towards the evening.Sulphur is also effective for  urticaria  suppressed with ointments in the past.

ARSENIC ALBUM 30- Arsenic album is prescribed when urticarial resulting from eating shell fish. There is thirst for small quantities of water at short intervals. The wheals itch and burn intensely. There is great restlessness. Arsenic alb. is also effective for urticarial at the sea shore.

PULSATILLA 30-Pulsatilla is effective when urticarial of gastric origin, taking rich food. Urticaria  with vomiting and diarrhoea Pulsatilla is effective .
