BOTANICAL NAME—Aegle
marmelos ( Linn. ) Cor.

DESCRIPTION—A small or
medium sized deciduous tree armed with
straight sharp auxillary thorns which are 2.5 cm long. Leaves alternate, three
foliate, but sometimes five foliate, leaflets ovate lanceolate, entire or
crenate. Flowers in short lateral panicles, greenish white and sweet scented.
Fruit a berry, 7.5-20 cm in diameter, globose, smooth, grey, yellowish or
greenish, rind woody, pulp sweet and aromatic.
DISTRIBUTION—Grows wild in
sub-Himalayan tract ascending to 1200 m and also in western Himalaya, central
and south India. It is often planted all over India.
PART USED—Fresh pulp of
fresh or half ripe fruit.
HOMOEOPATHIC
USES
DYSENTERY and
DIARRHEA-—For amoebic and bacillary dysentery. Most commonly associated with
indigestion. Abdominal colic. Water brash from
mouth. Flatulence , wind comes out with
loud noises, worse in the afternoon.
DROPSY—Dropsy of any part
of the body. Upper part of the eyelid swollen. Dropsical swelling due to heart disease. Urine
decreases considerably. Patient feels slight pain in the back and lumbar
region, worse in the afternoon.
Excellent medicine in beri-beri.
BLEEDING PILES—Bleeding
piles with constipation. Disorder of stomach. Indigestion. Flatulent. No desire
for food.
FEVER—Influenza, when
fever is a continued type. Chronic fever associated with hepatic and spleenic
disorders.
IMPOTENCY—A remedy for
impotency.
