HOMOEOPATHY FOR ATROPHIC RHINITIS


Atrophic rhinitis ( AR ) is a term used to describe  nasal infection. Although it does not have a fatal outcome, causes osteomyelitis, or produce pain,  bilateral nasal obstruction and a persistent foul odor.
Atrophic rhinitis (AR) is a condition that affects the interior of the nose. The condition occurs when the tissue that lines the nose, known as the mucosa, and the bone underneath shrink down. This shrinking down is known as atrophy. It can lead to changes in function of the nasal passages.
Causes
There are two different types of AR. It  can develop nearly any time of life. Females have the condition more often  than males.

Primary atrophic rhinitis

Primary AR occurs on its own without any prior conditions or medical events causing it. The bacterium Klebsiella ozaenae is often found. Other bacteria may also found. Healthline
While it’s not clear what exactly causes it, several underlying factors may put you more at risk for developing primary AR, including:
·         genetics
·         poor nutrition
·         chronic infections
·         anemia due to low iron levels
·         endocrine conditions
·         autoimmune conditions
·         environmental factors

Secondary atrophic rhinitis

Secondary AR occurs because of prior surgery or an underlying condition. You may be more susceptible to secondary AR if you’ve had:
·         radiation
·         sinus surgery
·         nasal trauma
The conditions that may make you more likely to develop secondary AR include:
·         syphilis
·         tuberculosis
·         lupus
You may also be more vulnerable to secondary AR if you have a significant deviated septum. Chronic cocaine use can also lead to the condition.
Symptoms
Common symptoms of AR include:
·         crusting that can fill the nose, often green
·         strong foul odor from nose
·         nasal obstruction
·         nasal discharge
·         nasal deformity
·         nosebleeds
·         loss of smell or decreased smell
·         frequent upper respiratory infections
·         sore throat
·         watery eyes
·         headaches
HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES

When atrophic rhinitis   is concerned there are many effective medicines available in Homoeopathy , but the selection depends upon the individuality of the patient , considering mental and physical symptoms.

AURUM METALLICUM 30—Arum metallicum is one of the top remedies for atrophic rhinitis with fetid discharge. Decay with fetid discharge, purulent and bloody. Nose snubbed, ulcerated, painful, swollen and obstructed. Bone pains in nose, worse at night. Horrible odor from nose and mouth.

AURUM MUR. NATRONATUM 12X—Aurum mur. nat. is indicated for atrophic rhinitis woth atrophy of nasal mucous membrane, accompanied by considerable crusting , discharge and a very offensive odor. Ulcers and caries. Nose swollen, hard and shinning. If he takes cold, erysipelas sets in.

ASAFOETIDA 30—Asafoetida is best for atrophic rhinitis with offensive discharge from the nose. Syphilitic ozaena with very purulent offensive discharge. Decay of nasal bones.

CALCAREA SULPHURICA 30—Calcarea sulph is indicated at the onset. Cold in the head with thick, yellowish , purulent secretion, frequently tinged with blood. One- sided discharge. Yellow discharge from posterior sinuses. Edges of nostrils sore. Bloody coryza in infants.

KALI BICHROMICUM 30—Kali bichromicum is another effective remedy for atrophic rhinitis with thick, ropy, sticky, greenish, yellow acrid discharge. Discharge of  tough, elastic plugs , leave a raw surface. Large clinkers. Post nasal dropping of thick mucus. Suppressed catarrh. Coryza with obstruction of nose.Nasal septum ulcerates, round ulcer. Fetid smell from retention of discharge in nose.

KALI IODATUM 30—Kali iodatum is best for atrophic rhinitis with perforated  nasal septum. Cool , greenish , irritating discharge from nose. Stuffiness and dryness of nose without discharge. Tightness at the root of nose.

PULSATILLA NIGRICANS 30-Pulsatilla is excellent for atrophic rhinitis  with bland yellow discharge from nose. Yellow mucous abundant in morning. Nasal bones sore. Bad smell from the nose. Large green fetid scales are seen in nose.  Coryza , better going out in the open air. Coryza with stoppage of right nostril and pressing pain at root of nose. Complaints are worse in the evening.

SILICEA 10M---Silicea is considered as chronic of Pulsatilla and it is prescribed for atrophic rhinitis with perforated nasal septum. Dry , hard crust form, bleeding when loosened. Nose dry, obstructed with loss of smell. Nasal bones sore and caries of nasal bones.

TEUCRIUM MARUM 30—Teucrium is prescribed, where chronic catarrh with discharge of large, irregular clinkers are seen. Crawling feeling in nostrils with lachrymation and sneezing. Mucous polyps are seen.

THUJA OCCIDENTALIS 1000---Thuja occidentalis is prescribed for atrophic rhinitis , where chronic catarrh with thick, yellow –green mucus mixed with blood and mucus are seen. Blows thick, green mucus. On blowing nose , pain in teeth. Bloody scabs or briny odor in nose. Dryness of nasal cavities. Ulceration within the nostrils. Painful pressure at the root of nose.
