ALLIUM URSINUM ----A REMEDY FOR HIGH CHOLESTEROL


BOTANICAL NAME—Allium ursinum Linn.

DISTRIBUTION--It is a native to temperate regions of Europe, from Britain east to the Caucasus. It is common in much of the lowland British Isles with the exception of the far north of Scotland, Orkney, Shetland, and the Channel Islands.

DESCRIPTION----Allium ursinum is a bulbous, perennial herbaceous monocot, that reproduces primarily by seed. The bulb, formed by the lower parts of the foliage leaves, is almost cylindrical , 2-4 and sometimes 6 cm long, approximately 1 cm in diameter and invested with transparent white or yellowy skins that are finally reduced to a few parallel fibres at base level. The base bears simple roots.
The stem is erect, 10-50 cm high, two-edged , sometimes triangular or almost round in cross section and compact. At the base it is enclosed in two, rarely one or three, foliage leaves.
The lamina of the foliage leaves is flat, narrow elliptical or elliptical lanceolate or ovate, pointed , 6-20 cm long, 1.5 to 8 cm wide, thin , narrowing suddenly down to the stalk at the base which is rounded or almost heart-shaped; the stalk is 5-20 cm long.
The involucre of the terminal inflorescence consists of two or three ovate elongated pointed  bracts that are about a long as the power stalks and drop off early. The flowers, white in color,  stand erect on straight stalks.

HISTORY AND AUTHORITY--—It is an official drug of the German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia.


USES-—Allium ursinum is effective for high level of cholesterol in blood and also for  hypertension. It is anthelmintic, antiasthmatic, antiseptic , antispasmodic, astringent, depurative, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, rubefacient , stimulant, tonic and vasodilator.

HOMOEOPATHIC USES—High level of cholesterol in blood, Rhinitis.

PRESCRIBED DOSE--—1x and higher

CAUTION--Gets spoiled in contact with metals other than stainless steel.
