HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES FOR COCCYDYNIA
Coccydynia is pain in or
around the area of coccyx, also called the tailbone. It is a type of back pain
felt around the last bone at the base of the spine, coccyx. The type of pain can be characterized as a
constant dull ache or a sharp pain accompanying various actions. Long periods
of standing or sitting , the motion of getting up from a chair, sex and
defecation may exacerbate the sensation of pain.
The coccyx is located just
above the cleft in the buttocks, and curves forward so that it points towards
the front of the body. The coccyx is made up of three small bones, loosely
fused together. They become more flexible in pregnant women to help them give
birth more easily. It also bears weight when somebody sitting down. Various
muscles , tendons and ligaments are attached to it.
Coccydynia is uncommon. It
is estimated around 1 in 100 cases of lower back pain are due to coccydynia.
Women are five times more likely to develop coccydynia than men due to the
association with childbirth
Older adults are more
prone to coccydynia , but the condition can affect people of all ages,
including children.
Causes

Trauma, for example from falls and
childbirth

Abnormal, excessive mobility of the
tailbone

Ageing

Poor posture
·
Infection, tumor or fracture, which is very
rare.
Symptoms

Immediate and severe pain when moving from
sitting to standing position

Pain during bowel movements

Pain during sex

Deep ache in the region of the tailbone

In women , increased pain during periods

Depression and anxiety if the pain lasting
for long period

PERFORATUM 30—Hypericum perf is indicated where
coccydynia occurs after a fall or injury to coccyx. Bruised pain in the coccyx.
CICUTA
VIROSA 30—Cicuta virosa is prescribed for coccydynia with tearing
and jerking pain coccyx, especially during menses. Back bent backwards like an
arch. Spasms and muscular cramps accompanying the pain.
CAUSTICUM
200—Causticum
is considered for coccydynia with bruised , darting pains around coccy. Better
from damp wet weather.
ANTIMONIUM
TARTARICUM 30—Antimonium tart is prescribed where the
patient experiences a sensation of a heavy load was hanging on end of coccyx, dragging
downwards all the time. Violent pain in sacro-lumbar region.
KALI
BICHROMICUM 30—Kali bichromicum is prescribed where the
pain in coccyx worse walking, sitting and touching it, extending up and
down.Coccyx pains before urination, better after. Patient feels that something
cracked across sacrum, worse stooping.
SILICEA
200—Coccyx
painful. Sensation of pressure on the coccyx. Pressure and drafts increase
pain. The patient is constipated.
XANTHINUM
30-Xanthinum
is prescribed where the pain in coccyx experiences all the time. Patient cannot
sit on a hard surface and keeps a cushion below while sitting.
