HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES FROM FISH


Fish are the oldest of the vertebrate groups and have the greatest number of species at around 33, 100 currently identified. They live almost anywhere there is enough water , from the highest mountain streams right down to the deepest ocean abyss.  They are found  in both fresh water and sea water. Almost all are cold blooded, able to turn the coldest most uninviting waters into areas of high productivity. Body is streamlined, provided with both paired and 
unpaired fins. Respiration is done by gills.
Homoeopathic medicines are prepared from plants and its parts, animals including mammals, chemicals,  nosodes, sacrcodes, immaterial energies, and from synthetic products. Some of the important medicines prepared from fishes   are given below.

ERYTHRINUS –Red Mullet Fish. A kind of Red Mullet found in South America . Dr Burnett is the authority of this medicine.He observed  its effects on some sailors who ate this fish. A peculiar red rash appears which became chronic.  Clinically Dr Burnet cured a case of Pityriasis rubra in a large patch on the chest. Also this medicine is effective for Syphilis. Aurum muriaticum is its complementary medicine.

GADUS MORHUA—Cod fish. First cervical vertebra of the fish is triturated for the preparation of medicine. Petroz is our authority for this medicine. Gadus has a powerful action on the respiratory system. There is flapping of the ale nasi like Lycopodium clavatum. It also affects the bones and causes heat of the hand. Mentally hopelessness and desire for death are prominent.

OLEUM JECORIS ASELLI—Cod liver oil. Oil obtained from the livers of Gadus morrhua and other allied fishes.Neidhard proved this remedy. Internally it is a nutrient and a hepatic and pancreatic remedy. It is a good medicine for atrophy of infants. Emaciation with hot hands and head. Restlessness and feverish at night. Pain in the liver region. Dry, hacking tickling cough, especially at night.  Constantly chilly towards evening. Night sweats. Whooping cough in miserable and scrofulous children. Soreness through chest. Yellow sputum. Haemoptysis. Palpitation, accompanies other symptoms. Children who cannot take milk.
Aching pain in elbow and knees, in sacrum. Chronic rheumatism , with rigid muscles and tendon. Burning in palms.
Milk crusts on Skin. Yellowness of skin. Cold abscess. It is used locally in ringworm.

EEL SERUM ( SERUM ANGUILLAE )—Toxic serum of the Eel , Anguilla rostrata Le Sueur, a ray- finned fish. It has specific action on kidneys and heart. It is an effective remedy for acute nephritis. The systole of the heart is insufficient, decompensated valvular disease, irregular pulse due to fibrillation of the auricle. Assytole, feeble, frequent, irregular pulse. Dyspnea with scanty urine. Albuminuria. Liver enlarged. No edema.

ICHTHYOLUM- A combination of Sulphonated Hydrocarbons. A fossil product of complex structure found in Tyrol, supposed to be the fish deposits, contains 10 percent of Sulphur. Its main action is on skin, mucous membrane, and kidneys. It is strongly antiparasitic. Redness , pain and inflammation of skin. Decreases tension. Excellent remedy for winter coughs of old people. Dry, teasing cough.  It is good remedy for polyarthritis. Chronic rheumatism. Uric acid diathesis. Effective for hay fever, and chronic hives. Aids nutrition and effective for Tuberculosis. Alcoholism when nothing will stay on stomach. Nausea. Increased appetite. Disagreeable taste, burning sensation in mouth. Very thirsty. Mentally irritable and depressed.
Itching of skin. Crops of boils.
Used externally in skin conditions.

TRACHINUS—Prepared from the poisonous fins of Trachinus draco or Trachinus vipera—Sting bull Sting fish.
Trachinus is an effective remedy for asthma, blood poisoning, neuralgia and ulcers.
Trachinus causes intolerable itching pains, swelling of the part and in some cases gangrene, fever, delirium and the sysptoms of hydrophobia. Intolerable pains, swelling acute blood poisoning, gangrene. Swelling of the whole body of wounded arm then of head and chest
Stinging, burning, throbbing pain increasing to unendurable intensity lasting an hour and then decreasing. Violent burning pain extending from wound to chest. Violent thirst in all complaints.
Skin of whole body became yellowish green. Gangrenous blisters on arms.

PYRARARA---A fish found in Amazon and South America.  Clinically used for various skin affections. Also for Lepra, tuberculosis, syphilides, varicosities etc.
